For more than 15 years, I’ve been writing about wine.
Please The Palate has been my home base - a place where I share the wines I taste, the people I meet, the places I travel, and the stories I discover along the way. It is also where I archive stories I’ve written for other publications, and every Wednesday, it is home to my Wine of the Week.
So why am I joining Substack when I already have a blog?
I have been asking myself that exact question for a while.
I do not need another place to write as I already have one. And I certainly do not need to give myself another deadline. But I like the idea of having another way to connect directly with readers.
Wine has taken me around the world and introduced me to fascinating people. I get to sit across the table from winemakers, walk through vineyards, taste wines and grape varieties I have never encountered before, explore wine regions, and ask a lot of questions.
Curiosity has always been at the heart of what I do.
Sometimes those experiences become stories I pitch to publications. Sometimes they become stories on Please The Palate. Sometimes they are discoveries, observations, conversations, or moments that stay with me and make me want to know more.
And that is what I want to explore here.
I am not leaving Please The Palate. My “Wine of the Week” will continue there, as will my growing archive of wine and travel stories. I will also continue writing for other publications.
For now, I am simply opening another door.
I will share stories I am working on, point you toward pieces I have written elsewhere, and bring you along for some of the wines, people, places, and experiences I encounter through my work. And perhaps I will share a few things that do not fit neatly anywhere else.
I do not know exactly what shape this will take yet. And I think that is part of what appeals to me.
After more than two decades working in wine, I am still discovering things that make me stop, ask a question, and want to know more.
If you are curious too, come along.
